I’ve always been fascinated by artists. More importantly the process required to make art. Watching an artist grab color from this messy board, mixing a few together and then strategically placing them on the canvas. One stroke at a time, they mix and blend. And over time the colors begin to make sense. They work together to create this beautiful work of art.
What’s particularly interesting is that only the artist knows the potential that the canvas holds. Because as part of the audience, watching Bob Ross (yup, I said it, completely dated myself – and now you’re probably considering the undeniable similarities between my morning hair and his television hair) was fascinating. He would make long strokes and small strokes, mix colors and blend. He splashed a bit of color here and there. And then, all of a sudden objects eventually would take on shape. The entire scene would come together creating something beautiful.
God is our artist. And we are the blank canvas. He takes these colors that He defined for our life and swipes them across the board. It begins to make a masterpiece. Then, free-will brings in an entirely new set of colors… often times covering up the original design. And no matter how messy your palette gets, if you ask Him to take over and make it beautiful, He can. He can produce a one-of-a-kind work of art and oh, it will be beautiful.
Never underestimate how He can recover those unexpected colors you pull in. The unattractive ones that don’t match His color scheme. And never question the messy palette that you see. Ask Him to take your messy palette, intertwine all color and make something beautiful. He’s an artist and his collection has only created beautiful works of art. You, are no different.

God, you are the artist and make beautiful masterpieces. You have intricately selected colors for my palette. Instead of patiently waiting to see how those brush strokes blend together for good, I bring in crazy colors and make a mess of my canvas. Please take back the artistry of my life. May I patiently wait and watch as you create me to be Your work of art. Amen.
