God’s Pace For Your Life

God has designed our journey to be taken at His pace, a pace that will deliver us the most fulfilling life. And when you take over setting that pace by yourself – you lose the beauty of contentment and blessings He designed for you to find along the way.

1 Timothy 6:6-7

I’ve recently realized this is a more significant short-coming in my life than I had originally thought. You see, somewhere over the last 15 years, I have allowed myself to take control of the pace. For me, that meant not just doing more, but doing more, faster. Over time, I’ve shifted my “pace setter” from God to society. I started looking around {instead of looking up and within}, comparing my pace with others and in desperation, tried to keep up. Maybe this is familiar in your life, too?

Looking back, I believe the transition started out slow, but over time it picked up speed and it got easier. Eventually I was following a cadence set by the world and I fell into the trap of craving more, faster and bigger. Always needing to be a little busier – and while that journey has filled my calendar, it wasn’t filling my heart. The increase in my schedule didn’t equate to increased JOY in my life. And this new found pace, which became my norm, caused me to miss many blessings and opportunities God had in front of me. As a matter of fact, keeping this pace greatly interfered with time for my relationship with God.

In this ministry, I often tell others they were created for JOY and owe it to themselves and Jesus to settle for nothing less. And I mean it every time I convey that message to someone. But it also means, when I’m feeling a gap in my God-given JOY, I need to begin identifying the cause of those gaps. In this case, my current pace is one of those causes. It is distancing me from my intentional relationship time with Jesus, and knowing God-given JOY in my life {you know the feeling of KNOWING your own God’s path}. I’ve recognized, the pace I’m at has caused me to get much busier and yet I have have found no additional JOY. Now I need to change it.

Just recently, I have become very intentional about listening for the pace that God has set for my life. I hope you join me. It may come with tough conversations and having to say the word “no.” It comes with well-practiced behaviors that will shift this problem. But I know {because there have been times before when I’ve lived by God’s pace… you probably have too} it’s worth it. If I can listen for His cadence and make shifts in my life to follow that rhythm, I know I’ll recognize the comfort and fullness that comes with walking together with God. You will too.

I invite you to join me on this journey. And it will be a journey. Because this earthy life is going to continue to tempt me to follow its pace. So it’s about re-teaching myself that faster isn’t always better. Bigger doesn’t mean satisfying. And more doesn’t equate to JOY. But I encourage you to be intentional, and prayerful as we take the pace God has designed for our life because what awaits, will fulfill us. We owe it to Jesus and to ourselves. Here’s to finding and living the pace God designed for your life.

Relevant Scripture: “Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” 1 Timothy 6:6-7

Heavenly Father, my current pace is off cadence from the pace you designed for my life. My heart knows and feels this. Previously, I would seek “one more thing to-do” in hopes to find your JOY. Slow me down, help me to find the pace that keeps us walking in unison. Amen.
