Make Time for Jesus

Great news… when I find the time, I’m going to knock your socks off with all of my accomplishments. You see, “when I find the time, I’m going to learn to knit, I’m going to scrapbook, read a book and refinish the kitchen table…” And there will be more. When I find the time. Just you wait and see.

James 4:8

There are so many great things I’m going to do when time allows or when things slow down. And although it’s maybe not harmful when it comes to refinishing the kitchen table (except for those of you who have to sit at it while we visit… I do apologize) I find myself using the same approach in my faith life. Are you with me?

When I find the time I’m going to join a Bible study, add a daily devotion and be more dedicated to my relationship with Jesus. But finding time seems nearly impossible. I’ve learned… I don’t find the time and the time certainly doesn’t find me. This life is so full of distractions, both good and bad, that weeks can pass by and I realize I haven’t committed any time to the things that matter to me – like Jesus.

This is why making time {taking control and making time, not passively waiting to find time} for Jesus is defining for me right now. And it’s also why I’m working to change my approach. I’m assessing the things that I value and then working to align them with where I spend my time. Take a few moments to think about it. What do you value in this life? Where are you spending your time? Those two questions should have some similar answers. Unfortunately, they aren’t always the same for me.

Take control and make time for the things that are important to you, don’t passively wait to find the time for things that matter – like Jesus.

I’m not proud of this, but you wouldn’t know Jesus is my top value by the amount of time I commit to Him. As a matter of fact, because of His grace, I’m typically waiting to “find a window of time” to dedicate more to our relationship. I haven’t been intentional about MAKING time in my day to spend with Him. So I’m changing that and I invite you to join me. I refuse to live my days on this earth with a list of values that never see my time. Make your top 5 list, I’ll do the same. Let’s start spending our time there… and for me, it’s going to begin with Jesus.

Relevant Scripture: “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” James 4:8

Jesus, help me to stop seeing your grace and forgiveness as an opportunity to set you aside. Give me strength and wisdom to use my precious time here on earth with the things I value most… beginning with You. Help me to sift through the distractions and to believe in myself enough to prioritize where you want my time to be spent. In Your name, Amen.

  1. Carrie, These devotions are inspirational! You are amazing! Please help keep me inspired! I feel that I am so busy volunteering, being a wife, mom, grandma that sometimes I am missing the JOY part of it. So I am grabbing my coffee and will enjoy your blog, devotions, scripture sharing. When we lived in China those 15 months, the days got long. Nick challenged me to read the Bible cover to cover which I did. I even led Bible study at our underground church with my friend as the interpreter. There are too many distractions here. It’s time to devote some time to that once again! And reflect on real JOY, I look forward to your blogs! God bless you!
