Searching all the Wrong Places

So I think we’ve established I’m not perfect (if you’re so inclined, feel free to argue this fact in the comments). I have serious moments of weakness in my faith and doubting my relationship with Jesus. I don’t consider these my most shining moments, but they’re real.

#reflectjoy #relevantscripture Matthew 7:24

When I arrive at this place, I go into desperation mode and I take the immediate gratification route.

Like every intelligent woman, I head to Facebook and search (because that’s a reliable source with an excellent foundation on which to build my faith). If I come up dry, I turn to Google for another round of well indexed blogs that appear at the top. Don’t get me wrong – there is a library of great authors who have articles, books, blogs and posts that help. But in these moments of chaos and desperation, I often times forget altogether, that Jesus is waiting for opportunities like these. He’s prepared me with His Book which holds relevant scripture verses. And He’s waiting for me to come to Him. Christ and His Word can navigate me through my worst times, and my best.

  1. When is the last time you found a few quiet moments and read your Bible?
  2. Do you remember the last time you grabbed for the Bible instead of your phone when you needed an answer?
  3. What is the most recent Bible verse you memorized? (Memorization is to prepare us so we have His Word handy when we need it.)
  4. How will you balance your time in His Word with the additional faith resources you have on your night stand?

Relevant Scripture: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24

Heavenly Father, please help me to come to You in my times of trial and celebration. Although this world has resources and other people at my fingertips, please intervene with the Holy Spirit so I reach out to you first. Amen.
